Witheridge
Family History Society
20th Anniversary - May, 2007
Coombe
Cross Hotel, in Bovey Tracey, is where the Witheridge Family History
Society held its 20th anniversary reunion, on 19-21 May 2007.
At least 30 attendees participated in at least one or more events over the weekend. It was wonderful to renew acquaintances and to catch up on happenings since our last reunion.
The AGM was held on Saturday morning and Chairman Ron Dixon handed the gavel to Richard Witheridge. The Meeting was streamlined this year with Reports made available for scrutiny beforehand, thus avoiding the reading of them at the meeting. Improvements to the Constitution passed with strong support. Minutes of the meeting should soon be available on the Members Only page of this site.
On Saturday afternoon, Tom and Sheila Jewell fascinated us with some research tips and tricks and applied them to some Witheridge research. They certainly showed us how research can be exciting and not simply "work".
The dinner Saturday night was another highlight of the weekend and the hotel
accommodated us for that as well.
The food was good and the company even better!
Following the meal, the Annual Obligatory Photos were taken. We scrub up not too badly, don't you think? At least it's clear that a good time was had by all!
On Sunday, many of us participated in a mini-bus tour of northern Devon, visiting ancestral churches and graveyards at Combe Martin, Northam and Bradworthy.
Those of us remaining on Monday were able to pursue our own interests and some of us enjoyed a day in Plymouth where we visited a former Witheridge residence which overlooked the steps from which the Pilgrim Fathers left on the Mayflower in September 1620.
All, in all, a most enjoyable weekend was the reward for those able to participate. Even the weather co-operated beautifully to caption the weekend "The WWWW: the Wet Witheridge Weekend that WASN'T!"
